Beginning at the early age of 2, Traci has always loved making art. Drawing images derived from the often chaotic world around her, Traci developed her talents. She would later charge her classmates in elementary school a nickel each to teach them how to draw horses.

Traci's love and passion for creation followed her into her adulthood. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the University of Mary Washington. She next attended classes in painting, sculpture, ceramics, and printmaking at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Eventually she received an MFA in Creative Writing from VCU as well. She has won several awards for both her fiction and nonfiction and often combines writing with the experience of making art.

She says : "I can't really remember a time when my hands haven't been busy making art. As a small child, my grandmother taught me to draw and pressed home to me the important lesson that, when coloring, images always looked best when we went outside the lines. As a young girl, my best friends were my stuffed animals and dolls and I try to infuse my curiosity about childhood artifacts into all of my work. I draw my inspiration from both Van Gogh and Basquiat, artists who have shaped my use of color and also remind me that all who wander are not lost. As an artist, my practice is not limited to one medium. I  consider myself multidisciplinary with a  knowledge-base that is deeply invested in a range of materials. I work in many mediums-- painting, printmaking, sculpting, assemblage, performance art, and writing-- and do not place limitations or boundaries upon my creative process. I am intensely interested in many materials, the properties inherent in them, and in the ways they might be used together. My practice incorporates  an intimate dialog with these materials and I frequently improvise forms with a reliance upon how their shape, texture, or irregularity fills a particular space. It is my goal to evoke an atmosphere, a theater of sorts, that resonates emotionally with the viewer.  This is especially true in my painting and assemblage pieces.

I hope that you will enjoy my work."
